CD DESIGN & illustration for the hal smith trio

Hal Smith is a prolific talented jazz drummer, historian, bandleader (and more) and has a new album with his traditional jazz trio. Being that Hal is a huge cat lover, he wanted an illustration of his band drawn as cats! We went with that iconic 1950s illustration and font style that instantly reads as classic jazz! I used a quirky flat style with whimsical shapes to illustrate the cats. Bold lime greens and sherbet orange gives it that poppy vintage feel. The back cover had a large amount of text that i needed to organize into a small space so I used a skewed orange shape to break up the text and emphasize the band member’s names. What a fun project!
